Take Action

To Donate

Home Start’s creation of affordable housing on Peaks Island is dependent on private donations, grants and mortgages. Donations, grants, and other subsidies help keep the size of mortgages down. Smaller mortgages help make new rental properties more affordable by helping keep rents down.

  • Please make checks payable to ‘Home Start’; they can be mailed to P.O. Box 174, Peaks Island, ME 04108

GOAL - $165K, STILL TO GO - $38.7K

As of March 22, 2024: Donations + Pledges = $126,278

* Our community fund-raising goal of $165K was set prior to the recent revisions to the City of Portland process for tax lien foreclosures.

This fundraising goal will be updated when we have more information on the market selling price for 18 Central Ave.

We continue to have the deepest appreciation of the Peaks Community for your continued support and generosity !

A Special Donation.

For 70 years, the Holy Trinity Episcopal Chapel provided summer worship services on Peaks, most recently at St. Christopher's Church.  Unfortunately, dwindling numbers meant that the Chapel could no longer afford to continue.  On July 29, 2023, the last of its reserves, $2450.56, was donated to Home Start to support the affordable housing project at 18 Central.  Home Start is honored and grateful to be the recipient of this very kind and generous act.
